Today in 1938: The American Rocket Society (ARS) Rocket Test Stand No.2 was prepared for an engine test in New York. Standing on the left is James Hart Wyld who helped design the engine that powered Chuck Yeager’s Bell X-1 through the “sound barrier” in 1947.
