20 Boy Scouts visited the museum yesterday working towards their aviation merit badge. Its great to see these fine young men taking an interest in aviation and science.

On this date in 1938 the Curtiss P-40 designed by Don Berlin made its first flight over Buffalo, New York. The P -40 was the third most produced fighter plane during WWII.

The museums Kids Zone is now set up. Our younger visitor can now play air traffic controller, pilot, our ground handler. The area has a panoramic view of the airport operations.

The Military Writers Society of America has awarded its 2013 Silver Medal in biography for My True Course Dutch Van Kirk Northumberland to Hiroshima written by Suzanne Simon Dietz, our museum historian. The announcement was made September 28, 2013, at the Military Writers’ conference in Dayton, Ohio.

66 years ago today, the Bell XS-1 designed by Bell’s chief engineer Robert Woods. A tribute to the engineers, technicians, and pilots at Bell who made it happen.

The museum was honored last night to host the families of great Bell Aircraft and Helicopter test pilots at the museum. Todd Carlson son of Floyd Carlson, Gary Johnston, son of Tex Johnston, Parish Kelley, son of Bart Kelley, and Jack Woolams Jr. and Ginny Paske, son and daughter of Jack Woolams. A great reunion of aviation pioneers families.
