Meet the Author: Robert Zimmerman “Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8”

Robert Zimmerman will present “Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8”

Wednesday, December 12th, 2018, 7:00  – 9:00 p.m. at the Niagara Aerospace Museum. (Directions)

Sponsored by AIAA

Free to Niagara Aerospace Museum members and AIAA members. All others: $5.00 (Active Military: $4.00)

This event is the second in a series of events hosted by the Niagara Aerospace Museum leading up to the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing in July, 2019.

It was Christmas Eve, 1968, and the astronauts of Apollo 8 – Commander Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders – were participants in a mission that took them faster (24,000 mph) and farther from the earth (240,000 miles) than any human had ever traveled. Apollo 8 was the mission that broke humanity’s absolute bond to the earth: it was the first manned vehicle to leave the earth’s orbit. Only seven and a half years after President Kennedy’s challenge to land a man on the Moon, Apollo 8 was also the first manned launch of the Saturn V, to this day the most powerful space launch vehicle ever made.

Please help us celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of this momentous event when Bob Zimmerman, noted science writer and author of “Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8” relates the story of man’s first journey to another world.
