Did you know that 4 of Bell’s Test Pilots flew the Bell XS-1 before turning the aircraft over to USAF for the record breaking flight. It was the courage and technical expertise of these pilots that tested and modified the Bell XS-1 that led to the first supersonic flight in the Bell XS-1 on October 17, 1947. Bell Test Pilots were Jack Woolams, Chalmers Slick Goodlin, Alvin Tex Johnston, and Joseph Cannon.
